Was supposed to be a great race yesterday, ended up as a "bam" to the foot. Fell off my bike, bike landed on top of me, got scraped and bloodied a little, and unfortunately it appears from the x-rays I have a 5th metatarsel fracture on my right foot. More details and pics of what happened are on my race blog
For now I'm on crutches with my foot and leg in a temporary/removable cast. To be cautious I'll use the crutches for probably a week, but there won't be any running for at least a month, and that's probably optimistic. There's a small chance the radiologist who will look at the films tomorrow could see that it is fractured enough to require surgical stabilization (ie pins), but that is worse case and I'm not planning on it showing up that way. I'll keep the blog updated though when we find out.
Life as a mom with crutches is difficult. I can't carry Kaitlyn, but Mckayla can. Unfortunately Kait kind of detests that. Mckayla is also a great nurse who loves to help me dress my wounds. The mental recovery of this is going to be very difficult for me as an athlete. I'll still swim and bike, although probably not bike till next week, but I love to run and am in great shape. I was trying to improve my race resume in hopes of getting a local bike shop to love me and give me a good discount on a tri bike this fall. I really am bumed out and upset right now, but I'm just trying to think toward the future. Getting this thing all healed up and then maybe getting a race or two in late August/September. The big goal is being totally good to go by December to train for Ironman St George May 1.

bummer! Thats so sad, I'm really sad for you. I know how you love running- that must be really dissapointing. I can't imagine trying to be a mom on crutches that would be rough. Your so tough though and always have a good attitude to make the most of life. Good luck, hope it heals quickly.
Oh, that is so horrible. I hope you heal quickly.
Tricia
It sounds very similar to Andrew's. I hope that its not, because he was "supposed" to be off it for 6 weeks, and we opted for the surgery so it wouldn't be longer than that. He's got a nice BIG screw. He was walking on it just fine at 6 weeks, but tried running and didn't last long.
But I think you are made of steel so you'll be back to running in no time.
I can't believe that! I am so sorry. I hope it heals quickly I know this must be killing you.
