I'm back....

To racing anyway. I don't normally do race posts on this blog, (you can see times, pics and a more detailed report on my race blog - to which anyone is welcome, really!) but I thought today deserved a little summary.
This was my first race in 14 weeks. It's been a long road. I had to race the shorter course because I wasn't sure my foot was ready to race the 6.2 miles of the run portion at the fast pace I wanted to run it at. I tossed and turned with the idea all week of which distance to do, but settled with sprint, going out and going fast and seeing what happens. Anyway, with roundworm found in Oquirrh Lake at Daybreak this week our open water swim got cancelled. Boo!! Hiss!! I was very dissapointed. I've put more time into training in open water this year than ever before. Anyway, they instead had us swim in the 3 lane community pool near the Temple to stagger people as putting hundreds of bikes on the roads at one time is not a good idea. Swim only took a minute, then a 1 mile run to the transition area to get my bike. Jer and the kids were outside the pool waiting for me which was fun. They ran along side with Mckayla video taping. We'll see if we can get that put up soon.
We biked up to Kennecot and back and I finally had a really strong bike split, very happy with that. Now if I could just get my hands on a new lighter, bigger wheeled bike....... Run was hard. Beautiful because we ran around the lake on paved trails, but I didn't feel like I looked anything good or had good form, more like running for my life since with a staggered start you never really know where you are placement wise in the race. I did however come away from it with a WIN! Yup, I won the women's race and placed 5th among the men. I surpsised myself a little. I never doubt my abilities and I did train really hard this last month, but it was still a pleasant surprise. I would've liked some better competition there, but only being 5 minutes behind the male winner and being almost 5 minutes ahead of the 2nd place lady helps secure my confidence.

It was so great to have so many friends and family there. My mom and dad made it over and that meant so much to me! My dad hasn't seen me in a triathlon I don't think and getting out for him and walking around and waiting isn't the easiest for him right now. It was so fun to hear and see them.

Jer was a stud as usual and was all over the course pushing the 3 kids in the trailer. Thanks for the mommy play date honey! They were even well taken care of, don't let this picture fool you :) Click on it, it's hilareous
So a satisfying great day is over, back to real life, school, yuck. I'm taking Physiology right now and it isn't so much fun. Too much mumbo jumbo vocabulary. We're thinking about going down to Vegas next month for a last race of the season, one I can race the longer Olympic distance at since I'll have more time to train this foot, but we shall see.
Anyway....thanks for all the support from my friends and family.
I'm so blessed in so many ways!
My hard earned one sentance of fame :)

CONGRATS, LES!! We are excited that you are back in the game. I'm not so sure that the other racers are excited, but we sure are. 5 minutes? That's awesome!

I love that you're back at it. Good luck in Vegas. Your triathalon blog is great, but I think you should start a bread baking one. That whole wheat bread you brought over the other night was INCREDIBLE! Better than Great Harvest. Just another fabulous talent!
